Albanian Alps, Lake Prespa and the lagoons of the Adriatic coast
Albania is the most mountainous country on the Adriatic. The coast is short and lagunal; behind the beaches the mountains begin at once.
In the north lie the Albanian Alps, with the Valbona valley and the villages of Theth, where shepherds take their cattle up to the summer pastures. In the south-east lie Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid with reed beds and waterbirds, and on the coast the Karavasta lagoon with flamingos.
Walk from May to October. In summer the interior is hot; in spring the mountain meadows are full of flowers.
