Rugova, Sharr and the Prokletije
Kosovo is Europe's youngest country and one of its most mountainous. In the west lie the Rugova mountains with gorges and high lakes, and the peaks of the Prokletije on the border with Montenegro and Albania. In the south lie the Sharr mountains with alpine pastures and birch wood, in the east hills of oak.
Shepherds still live from the summer pastures, and the villages have the same stone roofs as their neighbours.
Walk from May to October; in June the meadows are in flower.
