Durmitor, the Tara canyon and the Bay of Kotor
Montenegro packs one of Europe's most concentrated mountain landscapes into a small area. In the north lies Durmitor with its glacial lakes and the Tara, cut hundreds of metres into the limestone. On the coast lie the Bay of Kotor and the cliffs of the Adriatic, in the east the Prokletije and Lake Skadar with its bird migration.
Between the mountains lie high plateaus where shepherds spend the summer.
From June to October the high paths are open; in summer the valleys are hot.
