High fen, Campine heath and the valleys of the Ardennes
Belgium walks between the sea and the Ardennes. On the coast are dunes and mudflats, inland the Campine with heath and fens, and in the south the Ardennes: slate valleys, beech forest and the Semois cutting in loops through the rock.
The Hautes Fagnes is the highest and wettest part, a peat plateau with a climate of its own where capercaillie still live.
You can walk all year. Spring is wet in the Ardennes; October is the finest month there.
