Three days through the Ardennes
The Transardennaise runs 153 kilometres from La Roche-en-Ardenne to Bouillon, through the forests of the Belgian Ardennes. This route is the northern part: from La Roche via Amberloup and Saint-Hubert to Nassogne, 65 kilometres in three stages.
The first day climbs out of the Ourthe valley and crosses the plateau past Cens and Roumont to Amberloup. The second runs through the woods of Sainte-Ode to Saint-Hubert, finishing at the basilica. The third goes through the Forêt de Saint-Hubert to Nassogne.
The landscape is forest and plateau: spruce and beech, broad forest tracks, grassy clearings and the occasional view over the Ourthe. The elevation is modest but constant.
Practical. The route is waymarked red and white with the TA logo. La Roche is reached by bus from Melreux, which has a station; Nassogne has a station on the Libramont to Jemelle line, with a limited service. The stages end in Amberloup and Saint-Hubert, where there is a gîte and hotels. May to October are the best months.
The Transardennaise Saint-Hubert is split here into 3 stages of 20 to 23 km, 65 km in total, from La Roche-en-Ardenne to Nassogne. The stages below are a sample itinerary: in the planner you put together your own days and choose where you sleep.

La Roche-en-Ardenne - Amberloup
From the bridge in La Roche you climb out of the Ourthe valley with the castle above you. Then it is across the plateau past Cens and Roumont to Amberloup.

Amberloup - Saint-Hubert
Through the woods of Sainte-Ode heading south, with the Ourthe somewhere to the left and the great forest of Saint-Hubert ahead. You finish at the basilica.

Saint-Hubert - Nassogne
The last stage runs through the forest to Nassogne, on broad forest tracks and past clearings where deer graze.
