The Mullerthal Trail covers 112 kilometres in three loops through the Mullerthal, Luxembourg's Little Switzerland. Sandstone laid down 245 million years ago in a shallow sea has been carved by rivers into narrow gorges, rock arches and caves like the Huel Lee, where millstones were cut from the rock for centuries. Route 2 passes the Schéissendëmpel, the waterfall under a sandstone bridge from 1879 that became the symbol of the region, in a landscape once called the Land of the Wolves. In the north, the Éislek, the Escapardenne Lee Trail spends three stages on the shale ridges that give the route its name, past Bourscheid castle, the largest in the country. Both routes are fully waymarked and built around railway stations and buses, so a long weekend is enough for a complete route.
