Wadden Sea, heath and the Black Forest ridge
Germany runs from the Wadden Sea to the Alps. In the north are tidal flats, dunes and the cliffs of the Baltic, and below them the heath and woods of the North German plain.
In the middle a chain of uplands rises: the Harz with spruce and granite, the Black Forest with its ridges, the Sauerland and Saxon Switzerland with sandstone towers. In the south the high mountains begin at the Zugspitze.
From April to October you can walk anywhere. The high fens are at their best in June.
